YOUTH WING : SERAPHS' CIRCLE

Message from our Youth Wing Chairman

As the chairman of Youth Wing, I am proud to say that Youth Wing is ready to spread out its wings and soar. We have a new direction in that we would like to help students wherever possible, not only those who are currently in school but also those who have graduated.

The sense of belonging in St. Margaret’s would kick in stronger especially so once you have graduated (trust me, I would know). It will always be a part of me and in fact, it has sculptured me into the person I am right now. To be honest, being in the Youth Wing makes me realize my purpose. It shows me my potential. Funny thing is, I realized  it just recently when I was doing some soul searching within me.

My point is that we were all once served. So when you serve, you will get a sense of fulfilment that is beyond the horizon. The past and present Youth Wing Committee members share this vision with me. We are honoured to serve. Let me hear from you, Youth Wing members!

I like to leave you with this quote ...

“There are those who give little of the much which they have and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome. And there are those who have little and give it all. These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.”

Background and Membership Form

Background

In accordance with SMESA’s Constitution, former students currently attending primary schools, secondary schools, centralised institutes or junior colleges cannot be admitted as members.  Therefore, a youth wing “Seraphs’ Circle” has been set up to nurture young, former students of the School who are still studying, whom we hope to enlist to be our full-fledged members when they have completed their education.

Youth Wing Annual General Meeting held on 21 February 2009

The Youth Wing Annual General Meeting was held on 21 February 2009 at the St. Margaret's Secondary School. The  purpose of having an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to report and review the year's activities/projects undertaken, to thank the committee members for giving their time and effort in carrying out the activities/projects and the general membership for their participation in them and also to elect a new committee.

During the AGM, as Chairman of the Youth Wing, I presented my report.  I informed the meeting that we had great events the past year such as the ‘Bring a Pet Day’ at the Lions Home for the Elderly and the Youth Wing Activity Day. A lot of planning and hard work went into making these events successful.

The Treasurer presented the report for the year’s expenditure and income and the balance in the account. I told the meeting that everyone in the committee is significant and plays a part in the growth of the Youth Wing.  A new committee was elected and they are listed below. Certificates of Appreciation were given out to the previous committee members by our President, Mrs Wong Sooi Loon. After the meeting, scrumptious food was served.  With a satisfied heart and tummy, we ended the meeting.

“Bring a Pet" Day at the Lion's Home : 14 February 2009

The Youth Wing organised a "Bring a Pet" Day at the Lion's Home for the Elderly on 14 Feb 2009.  The purpose was to show our care and concern to the residents.  It has also been proven that having pets around elderly people has some form of therapeutic effect on them.

We started the afternoon by playing some games with the residents.  There was also an interaction session, during which our pet dogs sat on the residents' laps.  Some dogs even took the opportunity to show off the tricks that they had learnt.  The Youth Wing members also chatted with the residents.  It was indeed a fulfilling afternoon.

Activity Day : 15 November 2008

The Youth Wing held its Activity Day at St Margaret's Secondary School on 15 Nov 08.  One of the activities was a Flower Arrangement session, during which the girls made lovely floral arrangements that were used for the St Margaret's Day dinner that was held the following day to commemorate the 166th Anniversary of our School.  The girls also learnt how to make delicious sandwiches and attended a grooming talk.  Everyone enjoyed themselves that afternoon.

“Back to School” Reunion High Tea : 4 August  2007

Many ex-students of the St. Margaret’s family turned up for SMESA’s “Back to School” reunion high tea held on 4th Aug 07 at the secondary school. The representatives of the Youth Wing who attended the tea certainly got to know many of the SMESA members.  Refreshments were served before we proceeded to the Heritage Gallery, and to our surprise, many familiar faces were spotted in the Gallery. All of us had a fun time indeed, getting to know more members of our large family.

Annual General Meeting : 28 July 2007

This year, the Youth Wing’s Annual General Meeting was held at St. Margaret’s Primary School on 28 Jul 07.  Mandatory matters such as the Chairman’s report and Treasurer’s report were presented to the members.  The Chairman also presented details of the Youth Wing activities held during the year.  SMESA President Pixie Ho and Youth Wing Co-Advisor Anne Chung also spoke at the meeting, informing our members of the important role which the Youth Wing plays in bridging the gap between different generations of students.

Outgoing Committee Members were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their contributions to the group for the past year. After which, the new Youth Wing Executive Committee was elected. The new Committee Members are as shown in the list below.

The AGM did not end there!  Ex-student Sankari of Class of 1998, St Margaret’s Primary School, conducted a special Bollywood Dance workshop.  She led the members to a Bollywood number and got the crowd moving. Within a matter of an hour, our members mastered a dance routine and performed it to each other. Two members were awarded special prizes for outstanding performance during the workshop. The workshop ended with Sankari performing a dance routine.
